Presentation Topic: “A National Coalition to Achieve Qualifications Based Selection in Canada”
Guest Presenter: Cal Harrison, BA, MBA, CMC, President Beyond Referrals and QBS Canada Since 1972, QBS has been required by law in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of Canadian professionals think it’s about time Canada caught up… For 15 years Cal Harrison has been the President of Beyond Referrals, providing sales and marketing consulting and training to professional services firms across North America. In 2015 Cal created QBS Canada, a national coalition of associations, companies, and professionals advocating for the use of Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) when hiring professional services firms in Canada.
The three year objectives of the coalition are:
• Raising the awareness of QBS and its benefits, in Canada’s procurement community, from under 30% to over 70%
• Facilitating the trial of QBS by thousands of procurement professionals in organizations across Canada by providing 30 half-day QBS seminars in Canada each year at no cost to procurement groups
• Setting the stage for new procurement policies and a “Canadian Brooks Act” covering not just architecture and engineering, but all professional services For the first time in Canada there now exists a multi-profession advocacy group pushing for Qualifications Based Selection in all professional services sectors, to support the foundation laid by associations such as the ACEC and RAIC at the national, provincial, and municipal levels, over the last decade. Cal will discuss how the coalition came to exist, how it operates, what it expects to achieve in the next three years, and why QBS is so important to Canadian citizens and taxpayers.
