Probabilistic Based Reliability Analysis for Transmission Systems - 2016

Teshmont proposed an innovative approach to analyze the impacts of over $3.6 billion of transmission upgrades on the reliability of the Newfoundland and Labrador electrical system for Nalcor Energy. The proposed upgrades to the system include the development of two high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems, one from Labrador to the island of Newfoundland, and a second HVDC system from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia. By applying probabilistic analysis in conjunction with deterministic power system studies, Teshmont was able to definitively quantify that proposed transmission system upgrades in the province would decrease unserved energy by a factor of over 1000 times.
