The unprecedented 300 year Assiniboine River Flood event overwhelmed south-western Manitoba in 2011. Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation engaged KGS to provide emergency engineering services, along with Canadian Forces, and others forming a diverse integrated team to respond to frequent challenges. KGS Group’s geotechnical, hydraulic and survey and GIS expertise provided timely, effective engineering design and site support to MIT. Innovative solutions and quick decisions were provided under difficult conditions, utilizing helicopter support, infrared night surveillance, flow monitoring, adaptable designs and geotubes. The integrity of dikes and control structures was maintained and catastrophic damage to property and infrastructure was averted along the Assiniboine River system.
