Analysis of Options of Emergency Reduction of Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin - 2012

AECOM Canada Ltd. and KGS Group

In June 2011, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation assigned AECOM and KGS with the task of identifying and analyzing options that would provide significant relief from the flood on Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin. Selection of possible routes for emergency outlet began immediately with over 30 field and office technical staff mobilized including engineers, seismic crews, surveyors and construction estimators. In the following months over 8 flood channel routes from Lake Manitoba, outlets from Lake St. Martin and four flood management options on the Assiniboine River were analyzed and costs estimated. The Government of Manitoba formally accepted the recommended options on July 26, 2011.
